Level 2.1

On commencement in the profession at  Assistant Level 2

An employee at this level has completed relevant AQF Certificate III training or an equivalent qualification or possesses skills, knowledge or experience to perform duties at this level.

Level 2.2

After 1 year in the profession at Assistant Level 2

The employee undertakes some or all of the following indicative duties under routine or limited supervision to the extent of their training, skills and experience:

Ø Assists in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of developmentally appropriate programs for individual children or groups.

Ø Records observations of individual children or groups for program planning purposes for qualified staff.

Ø Under direction works with individual children with particular needs.

Ø Assists in the provision of training to level 1 employees.

Ø Demonstrates ability to form relationships and appropriate interactions with children and families.

An employee at this level in the profession is entitled to progress to increment Level 2.3.

Level 2.3

After 2 years in the profession at Assistant Level 2

An employee at this level holds a relevant AQF Certificate IV in Out of School Hours Care or equivalent and exercises skills and competencies beyond those required for AQF Certificate III in the ongoing performance of their work.

An employee at this level holds a Diploma in Children’s Services or equivalent and in the ongoing performance of work exercises acquired skills and knowledge beyond those required for AQF Certificate III but below those required for a Professional Level 1.

As relevant for holders of a Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Education and Care)

On commencement in the profession at Professional Level 1

An employee at this level holds a Diploma in Childrens Services or equivalent qualification recognized by licensing authorities.

Level 1.2
After 1 year in the profession at Professional Level 1

Ø An employee at this level, to the extent of their skills and experience undertakes indicative duties such as: Is in charge of a group of children.

Ø Develops, plans, implements and evaluates a developmentally appropriate program for a group of children.

Ø Ensures that records are maintained and up to date concerning each child in their care.

Ø Prepares experiences that facilitate and enhance childrens development based on theoretical and practical knowledge.

Ø Assists in the supervision and training of unqualified staff and assessment of students.

Ø Plans, implements and evaluates care routines for individual children and groups of children.

Ø Implements the policies, procedures and routines of the centre.

Ø Co-ordinates and directs the activities of unqualified staff.

Ø Liaises with families

 An employee at this level in the profession is entitled to progress to increment Level 1.3

Level 1.3
After 2 years in the profession at Professional Level 1

After 1 year in the profession as a Professional Level 3

An employee at this level undertakes some or all of the following indicative duties to the extent of their skills and competence, in conjunction with the Director:

Ø Assists the Director in the co-ordination, direction and supervision of service employees.

Ø Responsible for the day-to-day management of the service during the temporary absence of the Director.

Ø Responsible for management and compliance with licensing and all statutory and quality assurance issues during the temporary absence of the Director.

Ø Contributes to the development of the centre or services policies.
